It’s taken me forever …
… to stop being so damn lazy and actually get going on a full length project. Since I finished writing my master’s thesis (a 30,000-word mini-memoir that I’ll most likely forever leave unpublished) back in May of 2018, I haven’t really started anything serious. But after reading an awesome book called Write. Publish. Repeat. I am ready and have begun writing my first novel.
I want to build a base – a platform – of readers and a network of writers, authors, and potential test-readers so in the future I have people I can trust to be honest and give me feedback.
That starts here, on this blog! Thank you to the few that have subscribed to me already!
I’m rebranding so to speak …
… and this is how it’s going to go. I’m going to start blogging more, less ‘high brow’ if you will. I want to jump head first into creating a brand that is truly my own, and the only thing I’ve ever truly loved (other than my wonderful fiancé; love you babe!) is storytelling. But loving writing isn’t enough. Neither is simply throwing together a 50,000-word novel then calling it a day. It’s about the art, of course, but also about business savvy, marketing, and engagement with potential (and hopefully eventual) readers and writers similar to myself.
This is the start …
… of a beautiful journey. I’m glad it’s something we can share. I moved to New York City and I’m learning that it’s not all that different from living and working anywhere else (and I’ve lived and worked in OH, TX, WY, CA, and South Korea). Sure the buildings are taller, the streets are crowded, and the rent is more expensive. But living here has also taught me that I can get busy working my tail off for someone else or I can get busy working for myself. And while I need a job to pay them bills, I also want to explore my own creative endeavors – not to mention indulge in my entrepreneurial aspirations.
I’ll be posting more about my writing journey. And when the time is right I’ll offer my novel (title yet to be decided) for all to see, right here on nyprose.com!
Please comment and share your experiences with self-publishing!
My goal with this blog is to start a conversation and build a network. I’d love to hear from you all about your trials and tribulations regarding the publishing industry, regardless of what you write. I want to hear from you all!
Talk to you next time!
